For starters ask them if they have refunded all but the £55 they still want? A refund to a card can take a few days!

If you still have their car I would lose my debit card!;) Recurring payments/charges are a bu**er to get out of!

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm kicking myself for providing them with my debit card information in the first place! They've debited £230 from my account today!

You think Halifax can reverse the transaction under the ground that I'm disputing it?

Yes - but don't ask Halifax, tell them that part of it is an unauthorised transaction. Get them to reverse it (you may have to INSIST - stay on the phone and ask to be referred up the line if no joy).

The point being, you can't have a true 'administration fee' that lawfully reflects the cost of the admin, if they can just reduce it by half when a fine is refunded. That means it's not a lawful admin fee - like in the case of the Banks who had to reduce their fees. I think with the Banks, £12 was considered to be OK for dealing with one customer's situation and sending one letter.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    Thanks again everyone!

I did notify Halifax , before I got these replies and they advised I request written confirmation from the rental company detailing their charges and why.

I didn't push too hard on Halifax as I still think there might be room for reasoning with the rental company.

I'll call them on Tuesday, verify they received their refunds and then ask them one more time if they will refund 100% of what they took.

Thanks again - you;ve all been so useful and it's truly appreciated!

If you have to go to money claim online to start a claim for the non-contractual charge, I'd add a £55 admin fee of your own for your trouble and see if they dispute it.......
