How to get Ink out of cream carpet-please?

Hello,

I have had a disaster- whilst my daughter was changing her ink cartridge in her fountain pen last night, the ink cartridge burst and now there is ink all over her cream bedroom carpet. Argh!! The carpet is only 4 months old and we cant afford to replace it. I scrubbed it last night with Vanish carpet mouse and thought I had got it out but this morning it looks like it has re-appeared and looks really bad. Does anyone have any good tips for getting this out, I have already tried Milk (suggestion by good old mum!!) Did not work at all.. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks x

Have you any spare carpet left over, from when you got it laid? I was thinking that you could maybe cut the piece out with a stanley knife and replace it with the new bit. Use the bit you cut out as a template. That's what my sister did when she burnt one of her carpets. I don't know how noticeable it would be on a plain cream carpet though.

You can claim on your insurance and get a new carpet, after all that is what you are paying the insurance company for. Go for it! Good luck

Try using good old "hairspray", this will lift ink residue from carpets, leather sofa's etc. Just spray & then blot with kitchen roll.

Stardrops is always highly recommended on this site as being able to clean anything and everything. Worth a try but gradually increase concentration just in case it affects the carpet

Hi there - is it blue ink? If it is you would be able to use a 'corrector' pen on it!! (SOunds mad but I did this myself when spilt ink on parents new carpet!!). This only works on blue fountain pen ink. (These pens are the reason you should never use a fountain pen when signing / writing out cheques). See link below for item - it's titled 'ink eraser'.
