Getting icons again

My computer was promting me to have a wizard 'clean up' of the icons down the left hand side of my screen. Thought i'd do it as I did it before and all was ok. Now when I go on all I have is 'my documents' and 'my computer' everything else has gone even my internet icon. I will be honest and say I felt sick!!:rotfl: To get onto the internet I had to click the green start icon thing at the bottom of the screen and go into programs and all my stuff is there. How do I get it back.
Sorry it all long and boring and I would give it a bash but scared I delete it then I have nowt if thats even possible. I have windows xp if that makes any difference. xxx

    Find the shortcut in Start - All Programs, right-click it and click Send To -> Desktop. Repeat for any other programs.

    This is not a problem - no programs have been deleted. You should have a folder on the desktop that says Unused Desktop SHortcuts. Open the folder and just drag them onto the desktop

    Phil51 they are not there???????? I can see the unused folder but it's things from the last time I did it????

    You might as well do as Chippy says and at least you'll only have the icons you need. Personally I don't have any icons on the desktop apart from temporary downloads. It looks tidier to me to have as little as possible there.

    For my documents and my computer. Start > menu of my documents/computer and click on "show on desktop".

    OOOOHHH I just clicked on programs and a list of god knows what came up and I clicked on open and there was a massive E there and nothing else!!! I dragged it over and now I have internet explorer icon again!!! I don't care about the other things:T :rotfl:
