I couldn't resist either
Great, but I hope you took note of the disclaimer in my signature!I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Oh of course, don't worry. I wasn't going to say anything, but you since you mentioned your daughter had now had some I thought I would.
I don't have anything 'fixed interest', but I did have some spare cash, so I thought it was worth dipping my toe. I'd think the extra yield is worth it, really it would've just sat in an account doing relatively little. The yield is high, but I do understand the risks, so we shall see! Paid 100.1 after costs, so ever so slightly above par which I'm happy with.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
I was tempted but in the end I just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Instead I used my spare ISA money to buy ordinary shares in RSA Insurance a few minutes ago. It currently has a similar yield around 9%.0 -
High yields are always linked to high risk, but I think the risk of an insurer cutting their dividend (or "rebasing" as they call it nowadays!) is higher than that of LLPC losing its coupon. OTOH RSA could well see good capital/dividend rises if the winds of Europe blow favourably.
I hold Aviva and Amlin so the prefs are really just some diversification. For my daughter, the fact that capital value shouldn't drop unless Lloyds falls due to contagion (in which case everything is toast!) is ideal.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I also hold preference shares with RSA (far more than the amount I hold in ordinaries) and fully accept the advantages of preference shares.
I was tempted by LLoyds, and indeed in the past came very close to buying Lloyds ECNs in my SIPP, which are much riskier!0
