Im doing the same in October - travelling to the US with my passport in my maiden name and driving license in new name - well its double barelled so its partly the same.

Anyway I dont see why you would have a problem - when you rent a car you just show your driving license? Youll just need to show a credit card too.

I've rented cars dozens of times in the USA, and have never once ben asked for any id other than a driving licence.

Do you still have a credit card in your maiden name? as it might cause problems if the name on your card is different to that on your licence.
It will probably be okay, but the last thing you want is for the car hire company to query it and have the agent turn into a "jobsworth".

You might only have a problem if you have the old fashioned paper licence. I've been asked for my passport when I've used this a couple of times as they want photo id.

If I were you I'd have both passport and driving licence in the same name regardless. I don't think it's a great idea to have the two main bits of id that you have in different names.

agree in general if you have a photocard driving licence it will be fine, but when picking up a car last trip (at TI) there was a sign saying that you had to have a passport as well as a foreign driving licence...I normally pick up at the airport and have never had that before.

for me, it was good, since being a complete moron I managed to leave my photocard licence in the room (at Bally's) though I had the paper counterpart and my passport...and just played dumb and handed both over and got away with it. ;)

I would just bring a copy of your marriage certificate if you were concerned.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
