Help....

Hi,

I wonder if someone can help..

I've been doing a CIPS (chartered institude of purchasing and supply) course through my local uni, this was done via my work as they agreed to pay the fees and I pay a % back.

To save costs (work for the public sector) I was going to use my ILA 500 account to pay for 2 modules as there are 5 modules at £250 each. This was all agreed with the uni and I sent away the relevant documentation for them to complete. There was a delay with this and the course actually starting resulting in my not being eligible for the ILA. I told the tutor this and it was fine as I was told during the course you could do it pay as you go basically. Now the college are bombarding me with letters, stating I'll be blacklisted if I dont pay the remaining fees as they are stating I signed up for the full course... Any help!? Surely liablilty doesnt fall with me as im doing it thro my work??

So is the college querying the payment of £500 or £750?

If you have said that you are paying for 2 modules and its the £500 that the college is querying then I'm not surprised that they are aasking for the money ......you obviously need to discuss with them how you are going to pay for them

If its the 3 modules that your work are paying for (presumably you've got their written agreement for this) then you need to be speaking to the relevant department to ask about payment

There are looking for £500 more. I only went to two tutorials and informed the teachers. I was never sent any details of any more and I decided to do it self study, now 6 months later they are looking for an additional £500. I agreed to do the 5 modules but this was on the condition of receiving the ILA allowance.

So the college is chasing you for the £500 that the two modules that you were hoping to pay by ILA?

tbh I can see why the college are chasing you. When you signed up for the course you became liable for the fees - the fact that you weren't eligiable for the ILA is neither here nor there.

So are you doing the other 3 modules at the uni? I would be careful if you are because I believe many institutions withhold results until the debt is paid

Yes they are now chasing me for the ££, although I sent all paperwork to college and because of the delay with them the ILA received the paperwork too late!

I was assured to provide payment without the ILA and now emails are going back and forth. I have done everything possible on my side to get all paperwork was processed effectively therefore I think the liability lies with the college.

Do you know where I can take this further? As I dont like the way the college is treating this matter.

    Thanks

Well I still think you're on to hiding to nothing.....if you provided a guarantee that you would pay for the course then that's what the college is now asking for you do

(Having re-read the original posting again why didn't you make payments throughout the course; I presume you actually studied the 2 modules?)

Whilst I can see your point of view can you prove when documents were sent / received as I think saying I sent the documents in plenty of time is going to have less effect than saying I sent them on x and they were received on y so why weren't they processed in time?

But as I have said before if you agreed to pay for the course, regardless of how you were actually going to pay for them, you are liable for the course fees so tbh I think you will have to pay them
