Finding good tradesmen abroad

It's hard enough where you live but how would you go about finding somewhere in Spain if you needed a bit of work doing ie new kitchen and bathroom? the estate agent might recommend someone but you never know if that's because they're on a back-hander. Have looked in the local papers but wouldn't really do that here so probably not a good idea. We don't know anyone over there. any suggestions?

yes good point but what happens when they realise they haven't got all the tools they need and they go to the local hardware shop and can't speak spanish. I would like to employ spanish people but don't know where to start0

Depends where you live in Spain! Some idea of where you live would help maybe ~ its rather like asking someone in London to recommend a kitchen fitter in Newcastle. Not sure I can help (Mallorca) but will try however in a funny sort of way I agree with FBBB as I have just had stuff shipped out (B&Q) which was 50% cheaper - incl. shipping - than Leroy Merlin.0

Think you need to go on a more local website to look for recommendations as unless you are lucky do not believe you will find many people on the MSE website with knowledge of the Torremolinos builders/tradesmen to use.
I did find this website ....

for a starter ~ obviously no recommendation but no doubt you could contact firms and go from there.0 -
sorry I didn't make myself at all clear. What I meant was how would you go about finding someone ie local paper etc rather than asking for recommendations for individuals. thanks all0
