Ripping CDs & adding album info/artwork - how to?

Hi,
We've been gradually copying our music CDs onto the computer so we can save them to an SD card to use to play the music on our phone. It has worked fine except that we don't have album art or album info.
Is there a way to add this after we have already ripped the CDs? They are all just saved in individual folders on the computer C drive. I googled it and found some instructions on how to do it using Windows Media Player, but that won't let me browse to the C drive to select the folders.
Also, when accessing the SD card on the phone, some artists/albums the phone recognises, listing them all alphabetically, but for the majority it has lumped them all into a folder called "Unknown artists". Again, is there a way to get the phone to recognise them so it gives one alphabetical list?
Many thx for any help on this. (I now understand I should have had PC connected to the internet at the time of ripping the CDs and it would have done it automatically, but too late now as we've copied so many already and don't want to repeat the process if we can help it!!)

I've always used Mp3 tag which is free and easy.

Edit - I see TangleFoot has mentioned it - you really can't go wrong with it.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

+1 for MP3 tag.
Some hints and tips:- Assuming you've ripped to MP3, each MP3 file will have a series of tags, such as track title, album name and so on. One of the tags holds the album artwork.
- Most modern MP3 players organise your tracks by these tags. This is known as MTP. so your tags have to be correct
- To add or edit tags you can use Windows Media Player or MP3tag. Once changed the tags stay with the mp3 file, so you can use either program or something else
- I organise my MP3 files on the hard drive in the following folder structure - It's easy to navigate round your collection that way
c:\music\<Artist>\<Album>\<track number>-<title>.MP3
For instance c:\Music\Queen\Greatest hits II\01-Akind of magic.mp3
This satisfies the requirements of older MSC players which have to be organised in this manner. This also makes it easier to use MP3tag - More on MP3tag here
- In windows media player right-clicking on an album and selecting find album information sometimes works. I haven't got it to update album artwork yet.The trouble is that it sometimes splits the album, so be careful.
- To add folders to the library in WMP11 or WMP12 in my example all you do is add C:/music

Another vote for MP3Tag. An excellent package that I've used for years. I have a large collection of talking books and plays as well as music. If you've got the courage to go into the detail of the scripting functions it's a powerful tool for batch processing of media files.Never let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.0

i use tag scanner or mp3tag
tag scanner works easy if you have mp3's named like this Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe
just hit generate
mp3tag u can add plugins to that it will add lyrics to a track too then
both here with a review
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-mp3-tag-editor.htm#TagScanner
for album-art i use http://www.creevity.com/
put your tracks in a folder open creevity select the folder
it will find the cover from your artist/song tags apply the pic you want
dont forget to tag the songs first before using creevity it uses the tag info
to find the pics
heres a screen shot on what it shows in your player it shows the same info on your mobile phone too etc
album info year etc will be there if you tag that info
