Adaptable life plan

Firstly apologies if this has been done.
My wife and I took out a mortgage in 1998 with the Woolwich, this was arranged through a financial advisor(FA) who had contacted my wife through her work. The FA insisted that we needed to take out a "joint life first death, maximum cover" assurance for 10 years with Allied Dunbar to get the mortgage. We have contacted the Woolwich (Barclays) who state there was no such stipulation.
My question, Was this assurance mis sold to us?

It sounds like it was sold by an Applied Crowbar salesman. That means you need to complain to Zurich (the insurance company, not the city in Switzerland).0

Possibly but not necessarily. Many mortgage advisers give free mortgage advice on the basis of you buying the insurance through them. So, if that was the position then there is nothing wrong with that. If that was not the position and you were lied to then its misrepresentation. However, it is damned near impossible to prove. Also, as you are married then you almost certainly have a financial need for it. So, your complaint would be very very weak and very easy for them to reject. it would almost certainly be reliant on a admin failure. If all admin was present and correct then you would expect your complaint to be rejected.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
