Camping in the Lake District

Hello all

I'm looking for a camp site in the lake district for a few days away in June (not half term) for my husband and I and another couple.

We are all in our early 20's and into mountain biking/climbing/exploring etc.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

How about Wasdale Head? Its a National Trust site and between the 3 peaks so perfect for walking and climbing and also very nice for cycling around the area too.

you can click the boxes on the left hand side for what you need in a site eg: tent bar etc then click on the map in the area you want to visit

We stayed here a couple of years ago and it was good.Plenty of walks etc, lovelly setting and the on-site pub was pretty good too..

You must ride the Hardknott pass and Kirkstone Pass they are breathtaking but do the Hardknott pass early ,before the traffic builds up. Theres a small railway down from The Hardknott pass..

Really depends on where you are travelling from as the further west sites can make the journey a bit long.
Wasdale head is good and there is a decent pub close by, or if you want to be nearer tourist activities those in the central lakes would suit.
If you are going on the fells make sure you are properly equipped and know what you are doing!

Can recommend Side Farm in Patterdale at the southern end of Ullswater here: http://www.lakedistrictcamping.co.uk/campsites/northeast/side_farm.htm
Excellent site and fairly central, good also if you want to do Helvellyn via Striding Edge, but maybe not the best location for cycling the Hard Knott or Wrynose passes. Also the A592 through Patterdale isn't the safest road for bikes! It's a busy main road along the west side of Ullswater and it's narrow in parts with many bends.

On reflection maybe the Wasdale Head suggestions by previous posters would suit your activities better on this occasion. It's also close to the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway too if you like narrow-guage steam trains and have time to sit and give your legs a rest.
