could anyone help me with outlook please

i have followed the instructions on the orange home page to set up my outlook express to receive emails and keep getting the following error message which i can't make head nor tales of.. i just wondered if anyone knew what it meant and how i can fix it please

are you putting the right username + password?

not used outlook for years but isnt there an option if its conected by ssl or not? you may be trying to connect with it and its not or vice versa.

should be an options box in the set up

In OE mail settings for the pop.orangehome.co.uk account, untick 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)'.

i have checked the settings which all seem to match oranges and unchecked any boxes that needed unchecking..and it all worked perfectly until today.. now i am getting this message.. could anyone tell me what this means please

ERR AVG means there is a problem with the AVG Anti Virus, try restarting the PC or update AVG

Hi - What Firewall do you have running?

If it is ZoneAlarm try this -


1. Allow AVGEMC.EXE internet access in ZA permissions.
2. Add your email server name (its the same POP3 email server name as in your email client) into the Trusted Zones, ZA will do a lookup for the IP address.
3. Turn off basic email scanning features of ZA.

In addition, in OE, make certain that you enabled the option labeled "My server requires authentication" that is for the outgoing email server area.
