Start with the cheapest dells and use them as a baseline.

I think this site is still good as a reference for dell deals.

whatever you get consider at least one extra power block if being used in multiple locations by multiple people, much easier.

My inspiron 1300 did all that stuff till I dropped it with the powerlead attached, now in bits waiting for a new DC socket to arrive to get soldered in.

go for a lenovo G570. I bought this after researching for days and reading reviews on lots of different forums. Then obviously start tracking down the price. I used Laptops Direct but there were some pretty good deals on Amazon as well. We bought this lenovo as we needed a 2nd laptop. Funnily enough our old laptop is a lenovo U550 and is still in excellent working condition and nearly 3 years old. When we bought the old lenovo we did exactly the same. Research, forums and price search. Interestingly friends and family have been quite impressed as well, and either have bought, or considering a lenovo for when they actually replace their existing. By the way looks for discount vouchers for free delivery. Hope it helps.

The very thread you need is right here - Keep an eye on the end of it as some of the deals can be short lived:
