Today I got a Letter from "Jefferson Hobbs",
Some kind of 'debt advice' service. Look a bit iffy to me given that they themselves appear to be insolvent.

Bankruptcy is a matter of public record I'm afraid.0 -

Are public records indefinite then? and where would I look at them? Available on the london gazette website go far back as the 1800's

I'm still at the same address as when I went bankrupt, I guess until I move it's possible I could be further pestered (more like harassed imo).
They'll have obtained your details as above...if its a company offering to claw back PPI from before your bankruptcy then it's illegal as all previous debt fell into your BR so any PPI claims would go to the official receivers office anyhoo..Friends help you move. Real friends help you move bodies.

Yep shred shred and more shred :mad::mad: I am virtually shredding for you, I need to take out frustration on something, so I will carry on virtually shredding anything that comes my way
:D
I am having such a difficult time with financial institutions who refuse to co-operate I may even set up my very own shredding thread :rotfl:
Now there is an idea? Good luck xxxDeep doubts, deep wisdom, small doubts, little wisdom..............0 -
Whilst i understand you want to keep it private, its still on your credit file and you will most certainely fail any credit ref check etc for a long time to come.
Might just be worth mentioning it to the partner so in time there are no akward suitaitons to come/explain.
I remember some months on here, a chap was being asked to complete forms for a company credit card, near on 5 years after his discharge , he was terrified his boss would find out , of which they would have, it did have a happy ending as he had a decent boss, but it most certainely hadnt gone away and could have had a different ending..if only life was a box of chocs0 -
Another reason you may want to tell your partner is home insurance. If she is ever in a position to need to make a claim the insurer will most likely ask if anyone in the household is bankrupt. I had to make a claim back in 2005 - way before I got in to financial problems and they asked me that question - I did think it odd at the time but didn't question it. I cannot remember if they asked is anyone in the household bankrupt or has anyone EVER been bankrupt. It could mean that your insurance is invalid. You may want to check.

Hello
I've had 2 of these letters in the last 10 days & they sound identical to yours. They must be on a fishing expedition. Have looked into them on the net they sound a right bunch of crooks. Will be giving them a wide berth & using the letters for spare toilet paper.
As for BR recs staying on public record forever, this was never explained to me before BR. I was told it fell off file after 6 years. Ironic that theirs a bill going through parliament wiping some criminal recs after 6 years on the grounds of "natural justice". So where worse than criminals.
I think this is a vilolation of my human rights & will be contacting my MEP.
Thanks0 -

Personal Insolvency is exactly that...personal....I get the impression you feel that, somehow, you adviser is liable simply because [you thought?] they failed to inform you of the permanent public record?
This sort of information is for the individual to discover before petitioning for BR.
It is information that is in the public domain, and easily discovered.
Ultimately it is the responsibility of the individual considering bankruptcy, to make themselves fully aware of all implications....and not the responsibility of others to ensure they know everything.
[a bit like blaming your mother because they didn't warn you what marriage was like, after you've got divorced?]
What has changed in recent times, is the publishing of bankruptcy details in the local press by the Official Receiver's Office....which rarely if ever happens anymore, in cases of personal insolvency..[probably due to cost-saving measures?}
If, however, my impression is wrong, please accept my apologies. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
me to here! Likewise, I too received one today from Jefferson Hobbs, postmark says *S!!!!horpe* but they should change it to *Scumthorpe* (no offence intended). Jefferson's choice of the word "issues" denote more of the same from the past that someone like me, who perhaps, like many others, were let down by previous partners and left to face the financial fall-out alone. Takes guts to admit financial defeat and put yourself on display as a failure in a Court Room and to have to explain to a Judge how my demise came about was degrading. I thought I had put that episode behind me years ago, until today, when I opened that letter to remind me and it still hurts.0
