Car Loan with Welcome Finance

Hi all,
In August 2004, I took out a Car Loan with Welcome Finance via a car dealership (Now no longer around) There was PPI on the loan although all paperwork is long gone.
I thought I had read somewhere that
1. loans via ''car showrooms'' were extempt for PPI reclaims
2. that Welcome had been to court to wiggle out of repaying
wrongly sold cover, and been successful.
Or was that just a bad dream....
