Marseille/Arles

The missus has found a nice Gites around Arles and a nice hotel in Marseille.

We'll use both for a 11 day break and also hire a car.

Any advice for car hire and cheap flights.

Thinking of going late May or early to mid June.

Any 'don't miss this' ideas as well.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

We lived in that area so know it well. Must sees, in no particular order are:

Les Baux de Provence, St Remy, the Camargue, Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, Pont du Gard, Cap d'Agde, Les Calanques, Nimes, boat trips from Marseilles, Carcassone, the Luberon and of course Arles and Marseilles.

There's a lot more besides, and I'm sure others will have different favourites, so enjoy your trip, but don't try to cram in too much.

There's no shortage of good quality and good value restaurants, so just go wherever you get a nice view and/or choose a busy one.

I just saw Toulon once and think it was just a big port, with nothing worth going out of your way for. If you're at Marseilles, you're within striking distance of Monaco and Menton. The choice is absolutely huge, though, and it just depends how much driving you can be bothered with.

Make sure the hire car has all the stuff you need to cary in France, breathalyser, reflective vest, etc. I was amazed that when friends visited us in France their car came with nothing! It is the drivers responsibility and if stopped without them you will get a large fine!
