We bought a Mitsubishi pickup yesterday. It has low mileage for age and has full service history but we would like the safety net of a warranty for at least two years. When we bought the car we figured in about £250 for a warranty so have the cash to pay for it.
The last vehicle we bought had a cracked cylinder head within 6 months and cost us around £1500 in repairs so we are hoping to find a way to take some of the pressure off us if something goes wrong.
I have found dozens of companies when doing a google search and then when I have checked them out on here they seem to be best avoided. Is there a forum with recommendations anywhere?

Most warranties are worthless. Put the money in a deposit account.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

As above, they are not worth it. To claim from a warranty you would have to pay for the inital investigation. They would end up finding a way of putting the fault down to wear and tear (or using one of the many opt outs) and not paying out.
Just put away a bit each month and hopefully you won't need it0 -
Thank you for your comments. Not sure what DH will say when I persuaded him to buy a car with low mileage so we could buy a warranty.
I agree it is a good idea to put the money away each month. But if something major happens we won't have enough to cover it.
Basically I guess we have to hope that because we have a car with full service history that it won't cost us too much to run. I know it needs a timing belt change soon.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Take the gloom-mongers with a pinch of salt.
There was a good discussion about them here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3084630 including points to look for in a warranty, which are in summary, all component cover, and consequential damage.
Although ON AVERAGE you'd be better off putting the money away; that's no consolation if a major component fails and you have to find £2k (which happened to me as well).
The biggest are for dispute is wear and tear, but it should be possible to find a warranty that doesn't exclude wear and tear for a car under 6years / 60000 miles (sometimes it'll cover wear and tear even if the car is older, as long as it was under that limit when the policy was purchased.
Try the car manufacturer themselves. Vauxhall's own warranty was the best for me the last time I renewed it. I've already claimed about 3/4 of the warranty cost and there's still 9 months of the 2 year policy left.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
We belong to the Earth0 -
Knowing a good mechanic (or having one recommended) is often a better safeguard. The number of issues that warranty firms will not pay out for is longer that the list that does. Also watch for them fixing the primary fault, but refusing for the other faults (consequential to the main issue) that they will refuse cover.0

First 6 months of ownership is pretty well protected by the SOGA anyway. A warranty is only an extension of that.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Have you tried the Mickey Mouse warranty company?
They go by many names but usually the same end result.
When you ring to claim the howls of laughter rings out loud.
After they have composed themselves you get " Sorry thats not covered "

DH and I have discussed doing this but after horror stories of pickups I am a bit more inclined to buy a warranty than I was before I started this discussionthenudeone wrote: »Take the gloom-mongers with a pinch of salt.

Last year DS3 changed engines in his Astra with loads of guidance from people in the forum. |He was quoted £400 providing there were no snags and didn't include oils etc. He did it in 3 days and we kept coming back here tro ask questions. We know it can be doneIt cost him the hire of the engine lift, £35, lots of tea and biscuits. The local garage did the final check over and said he needs to fasten the hose clips more tightly. He didn't charge.:)
We are hoping that because we have bought an ex lease vehicle it has been properly serviced throughout it's life.We do have a complete service record and I checked that the mileage is accurate. I have also asked for cam belt and timing belt to be changed before we collect it.
I have to say I am feeling quite depressed after reading the comments about the engines. DH has no confidencebusiness mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527
