Hi I'm new to this, can anyone help me please? HSBC want to charge me £150 for going over my overdraft. I have sent them a message asking them if they can help me as I don't have this kind of money, they have waived £38 + interest which still leaves me with about another £100 to find which I don't have. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks

You need to give a bit more info. How did the £150 figure arise?
My advise would be to phone them and ask to arrange a payment plan, so you pay off what you can afford each month and hopefully freeze the interest.
£150 sounds like you may have left these charges ongoing for a long time and its built up?Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -
Hi, thanks for your response. They have happened from going over my overdraft between march and april. They've said they can't arrange a payment plan with me or help me in any other way even though I have said I'm in financial hardship, really not happy with their service as I told them, I know it is my fault that I have them but was asking for a bit of help, as you suggested - a payment plan or anything else they recommended so it doesn't spiral but they were really unhelpful. Comtacted the ombudsman who advised me that they should try to help and they have written a letter of complaint on my behalf. Will have to just see how it goes I suppose.0

I'm guessing there must have been some returned items on the account? DD's,Standing orders etc which bounced as well as unauthorised OD charges to amountto that much in such a short amount of time?
I would write a formal letter informing them of your financial situation, explaining what you can afford to pay and also detailing how poor theircustomer service is as they can’t seem to empathise with your situation.
If your honest and explain to them that you admit this was your fault, then I really cannot see why they would refuse to help you.
Is this your first "offense" with the bank?Total Mortgage OP £61,000Outstanding Mortgage £27,971Emergency Fund £62,100I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>0 -
yes it is, they allow my d/d's even if there is not enough to cover them but I couldn't believe it when I saw the amount of charges they were taking. Tried reasoning with them, I told them I understand where the charges have come from and that I know it is my responsibility to pay them but it was like talking to a brick wall! Will wait to see what happens with the ombudsman complaint letter. Who knows? Thanks for your advice

They have helped you though? They have waived £38? Not sure what you are looking for them to do for you. Can you reschedule regular payments on your account to reduce the risk of these charges again? Have you worked out why you overspent?0
