TV remote function

Hi guys
Looking for a new TV and the ones in my preferred size/price bracket inevitably have some downside. In the reviews, criticism of the remote function seems to crop up quite regularly. So is this likely to be a TV or a remote fault? And if you are on Sky is your remote connecting with the TV or the Sky box? The reason I'm asking is I need to know whether there is still likely to be a problem using a Sky remote (rather than the one supplied with the TV). Cheers.

I have just bought a new "cheap" tv from tesco. The TV is fine, but because my sky+ remote is not the latest version i am unable to find a code so that i can use it with the TV.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

Syman - I had trouble finding a code for one of my AV units when I got an all in one remote. Can you find the manufacturer of the remote and request a code, or simply ask Sky where you can get one from?
Pineapple - you still use your Sky remote for Sky and your TV remote for your TV, or as above you should be able to get a code to input into the remote for your TV. If not then you can get a new remote that would enable you to do this, but they come at quite a price!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Thanks guys. So say the TV comes with bad reviews about the remote function - can I assume this won't apply if I am using a Sky remote? (assuming I can get it to work).0

You can check if a new TV will be compatible/have a code for a sky remote on their website here; http://www.sky.com/helpcentre/tv/remote-controls/operate-tv-with-sky-remote/0

I don't think I am making myself clear. Let's assume I have a compatible Sky remote with a working code. My question is if a TV review says there is a problem with the TV remote function - say a laggardly or sporadic response using the remote supplied with the TV - does the same apply if I am not actually using that remote ie if I am using a Sky one instead?0

It would actually depend on what the criticism of the remote actually is.
Most the time is the fact that the thing is plasticy, poor response from buttons, bad layout etc which are all faults of the remote itself and so would be a non-issue if you are using an alternative remote (eg Sky's or an "all in one" solutions).
In some cases it can be sensitivity of the remote in which case this could either come from the remote itself or from the receiver on the TV. For example with my Sky box I can point my remote in any direction at all and it works where as for my amplifier I have to point the remote fairly directly at the unit and it cannot be "through" the clear glass top of our coffee table. This is an "issue" with the amp because the original remote and my 3rd party remote are exactly the same.0
