I don't know how the Scottish system works but I am looking a property to purchase in Dundee. Does anyone have advice on the best area to buy in and what I should expect from the system e.g. do I employ a solicitor first before I approach estate agents? One crucial difference in the Scottish system is that the entry/completion date is generally fixed when the offer is made.

Your offer specifies that you will pay for, and take possession of, the property on that date. Whilst the date is sometimes varied in negotiation prior to concluding missives, it's set in stone once they are concluded; and you have to know that you'll have finance in place and be ready to move on that date.
