Prepayment Final Gas Bill from EDF
In October last year I moved into a Housing Assoc flat. The flat came with prepaidment gas and electric meters. I rang the current suppliers (British Gas for electric and SSE for Gas) to get me set up an account with them and send me the token keys so I can top up the meters.
At the time I wanted to be moved on to normal credit meters as I didnt want the hassle to top up the meters and would prefer to pay via Direct Debit. Unfortunately both companies wanted me to pay for the engineer visit to swap the meters over. So I have decided to move to EDF as they were willing to do the work for free as long I dont leave them within 12 months and if I did then I will be liable for the charge for the engineer visit.
The change of supplier took a while (6 to 8 weeks). Anyway after it was completed I was given new token keys by EDF and started using with from day one of the transfer date. Also I booked an engineer visit to get the meter swapped. The meters were swapped in March this year (this was the earlist appointment they can offer). Until the date of the meter swap I made sure both token meters were in credit. When the meters were swapped the gas token meter had under £5 remaining and the electric about £15. EDF did warn me I might lose any credit thats already on the meters. So they warned me not to top up the meters too much.
Since the meters were swapped I heard nothing from EDF until I got "Prepayment final Gas Bill for Dec 2011 - March 2012". They want £57.22. Looking at the bill it appears they billed me for the period I was on the prepayment meter. Even thou I kept the meters in credit during that time. Also list of top up payments on the bill is incorrect as I states I only top up the Gas card once.
I am going to ring EDF tomorrow to sort this out. Any other advice what else should I do.

They need to investigate where your payments gave gone. Do you have the receipts to prove payments?
You can't accrue a debt unless your payments don't make it through, in which case they can search for them. Sometimes the payments get misdirected to the wrong vendor service but as long as you used he correct key, they can trace those and recover them.
The only other issue that could cause debt in the statement could be the final meter readings being incorrect ir the switch reading was incorrect. So, did you give a switch readings? And check the tag in the meter to make sure the correct final readings have been used.
Also, they get info stating what the unused credit was. Ensure they credit that to your bill.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
