Okay - we are currently renting but looking to buy in about 9 months (when I have 2 yrs self employed accounts available and can get a high street mortgage). As we have kids we need a garden, which our current rental doesn't have, so the other day I went looking at what we could rent that's a bit bigger/suits our needs for when the contract is up in 3 months' time. Found a brilliant house, but couldn't take it as it is available at the end of the month. Was going to see if we could wriggle out of our contract early but the house went in the meantime... Anyway, i was wondering if this would seem really wierd, but I was thinking of putting a note through the owner's door to say that we were looking to buy in about a year and if he had changed his mind about renting his house out, would he sell to us?
He was in whan I looked round and looked like he had sort of stumbled into renting - according to agent was about to go travelling. with a bit of detective work, his name is on the land registry with a woman's so I am guessing they split and he took the home / doesn't know what to do with it but is planning to get away.
If this happened to you, would you think the sender was a) a nice mum looking for a family home near her kids' school OR b) Glen Close in Fatal Attraction (but after your house, not your husband). Thoughts welcome!;)

There have been a few threads on here over the last few month's regarding people who have either thought about or actually done the exact same thing.
I wouldn't worry about it and give it a go; you're not breaking any laws, and the worst that can happen is the guy isn't interested in selling. If he is, you've got yourself a nice deal on your hands as he'll save £££££ in Estate Agent fees!0 -

jaype, I think it is worth putting a note through. He could say no but there again he may at least consider it for the future if renting doesn't work out for any reason.
I had a note put through the door of a house I co-own whilst we were renovating it, asking if we wanted to sell it and could we contact her as she was interested in buying it. As we were renovating the house to let, not sell, we weren't interested but she wasn't to know that.0
