Went to The Range today. Got candy canes (box of 12 for £1) and advent candle, nice tapered one. The Christmas department was like 'WOW' and me and DD (4) really got into the Christmas spirit. Also got a dangly decoration which DH was just about to moan about then he said that 'oh, it's not a Christmas decoration'!. Oh yes it is but I'm not going to let on to him so have put it up (string wooden robins and bells)
Also got the Gingerbread cushion at Dunelm http://www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/gingerbread-christmas-cushion-273841 which was brilliant value - thank you to whoever mentioned them about 30 pages ago
DS2 (15) begged for a candy cane when I got home so gave in to him. Long as I have enough left for the sleighs.
Oh, and I put my annual £15 bet on for a white Christmas:rotfl:Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Now, we both work very hard, and yes my kids are spoilt for xmas and birthdays, but thats why i work hard - for them. They are both good kids, they ask for nothing, and are grateful for everything, i only spend so much on them, because its my way of justifying all the long hours and crap my dh and i put in during the working week. however, having now discovered this site and especially this thread, i have already made my 2013 resolution. i am going to slash everyones budget in half, send a lot of home made gifts next year, and save enough money that we can spend new year 2014 at centreparcs or similar. just ran it past dh and he's thrilled with the idea. So although i havent quite finished this years xmas shopping, i have now started a new word document colating all the info on homemade gifts, and cheaper alternatives for xmas 2013! hows that for forward planning!!!

Both my mum and dad and Hubby's mum and dad always made a big deal of Christmas when we were kids and we always got a huge pile of pressies. Dad always said that his parents couldn't afford to splash out on pressies and he'd always told himself he would make sure he could. Now as adults we both do the same but only what we can afford.Own_My_Own wrote: »Morning All,

It looks like we're going to have some nice weather here :j
ELJAYCOCK hope dd is ok
Hope you did well at the boot sale. We're planning to do one in Nov, going to have a look at the Oct one to see if it's worth dong.0 -
Well, catching up didn't take too long today
Bent's is a tad out of the way for me.
It's really miserable weather here today so I'm staying in and going to do some more Christmas cards. Found some decoupages I'd done last year but never made into cards so going to get them sorted this aft0 -
I popped into my local Range yesterday and they only had the Xmas chocs out - none of their Christmas decorations etc yet
I love looking at all the sparkly things

I'm so glad to be here amongst you lovely lot! :T
We went to the shops yesterday and it was absolutely heaving, it was manic like just-before-christmas-last-minute-rush busy! So I told my DH that I had to step it up on the ole christmas shopping, and thanks to MSE I have done just that! Since Friday I have got presents for my mum, MIL, sister, SIL, BIL, DD, DS and a couple of Elf gifts to have during December once they visit (the build a bear igloo, Rudolph Monopoly and some marshmallows)
oh.... and I invested in the Christmas app for my phone
and I might have accidently bought myself a couple of treats on the wayshhhhhh don't tell anyone :rotfl:
So all in all, although I'm not finished, it has been a very successful weekend :xmassmile:xmassmile:rudolf:0 -
Because I've been planning and thinking about Christmas for ages already, I've sort of lost all proportion with normal timescales. Will all shops have their full Christmas ranges out by say, the end of November do you think? Or maybe even the beginning?
I wouldn't want to make a special journey to my local Range too early and find (like lazysheep said above) that they didn't have it all out yet.:rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf:0 -
Feeling very organised now...all family presents put away now..and teachers.
Hubby has got my green organiser thing down from the attic for me that has all the wrapping paper in,tags, bows etc..was dead excited opening it up and seeing what i got in the January sales in prep for chrimbo..
Loving the gingerbread gift sets from Boots..Def look like the Philosophy range.
Going to sit and write my cards list tonight :-)
Think i am going to invest in some reusable advent calendars this year..
Our local garden centre (Brigg Garden Centre) is now open for its Christmas display..cannot wait to see it..always spectacular..Feels like Christmas is well and truly on its way once they have opened..
Loving catching up on the threads and getting more ideas xx0 -

Thats a lovely cushion & thank you for reminding me I am yet to look on the Dunelm site. I quite like the idea of an Advent Candle too, my mum used to always get one when we where younger so I thought I might get one.lemonade_money wrote: »I'm so glad to be here amongst you lovely lot! :T
