Invalid Ticket?

I received a parking ticket from a private parking company. However, the carbon copy that was stuck on my windscreen did not have a tick in any of the boxes to say the reason for issue. Does this mean the ticket is invalid? I called them today and a lady said that there is a tick on the original copy of the ticket (could have been added respectively and the person should have checked that it had gone through to my copy) and she said she could send me a reissued ticket in the post if I wasn't happy with my copy. Ha ha. I politely declined this offer (are they even allowed to do this?) and have tried to contact my local citizens advice bureau but no one answered the phones today. I'd like to know if I have a leg to stand on with claiming the ticket is invalid and how I should go about this?

Any help is MUCH appreciated!

It is invalid because only the police or your local council can issue a ticket!

What you have received is an invitation to pay. Have a search on these forums and you will find the advice is to ignore it.

If you have a look in this thread:

You might find the letter chain you will most likely get.

I hope you didn't confirm any names or addresses as that would have saved the scammers £2.50.
  • Thanks for your replies. No I didn't confirm any names thanks to reading the advice on here first! Does anybody know of any law or rules I can quote that state that if a parking ticket does not give a reason for issue then it is invalid?

It just means that if they do decide to do court (very unlikely) then you can produce that as evidence and it will be another nail in their unwinable case.

It might be a new tactic they are using to try and get people to phone up to ask what their "crime" was and accidently giving out some details.

Even if the ticket was filled in correctly, it's still legally invalid.

We have started hearing of tickets issued for "wrong" reasons. I agree that his could be a ruse to get the victim to contact them and, hopefully, divulge who was driving.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

Or even divulge the name & address to save the PPC the £2.50 fee to the DVLA as every little helps in these hard times.

Yes, what you need to have clear in your mind is that this never was and never would be a valid parking ticket, Hayley. Never mind looking for loopholes, the fact is that ANY privately issued ticket is FAKE and unenforceable.

Don't bother to waste time querying it, just ignore it and all the asinine letters you will get pleading for you to pay.

Which bunch of jokers was this, then? As Stephen has said, some companies deliberately issue faulty paperwork to tempt you into contacting them. Don't fall for that trick.

Law or rules? But this isn't a real parking ticket and you won't be writing to anyone quoting anything at all!

A scammer has tried to impersonate a parking ticket to part you from your money. You can ignore this sorry attempt at extortion. End of scam.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
