Hiding permanent marker lines on painted wall

I am trying to paint my bathroom white but when i previously decorated i marked lines onto the wall with a black permanent marker as i painted it bright stripes - you could not see the black lines then but now i cannot get these lines to disappear!!!

i have tried several coats of one coat emulsion paint and they vanish when the paint is when but then reappear again when it dries, the lines are now a dark orange. My partner tried sanding them off but as the wall is kind of artexed it's not working!

HELP ME HIDE THEM! i want to have white walls as we are trying to move so the bathroom has to appear nice to other people but i dont want to spend alot of money on tiling or wallpaper

would painting over them in gloss first help, or would i not be able to paint over that with emulsion? what else can i try?

Search for a product called Polycell Damp Seal.

Not just for damp - it prevents stains from coming through emulsion paint, so this will probably do the job for you.

Alternatively, Polycell One Cost Stain Stop, which is the product they make for this purpose.

I've tried the first one on stains that kept coming through plasterboard after a burst pipe and also on grease marks and marks like yours.

Bog standard oil based undercoat then overpaint. Don't use waterbased undercoat - it'll just bleed through again.

I know you have already attempted to paint over the marker pen but hairspray would have removed it.

Not from a porous surface like artex it wouldn't. The pen marks are in the artex, not on the artex.

We had marks one of our lovely foster kids had drawn on his bedroom wall and I tried normal paint but it was still visible. I then gave it a coat with the gloss paint I was using on the door and then repainted it with the emulsion and you would never know he snuck a pen upstairs!

Trouble with that is that the emulsion won't have stuck to the gloss too well which is why I say use undercoat which has a matt finish.

You are spot on. Zinsser products are the best thing to come out of the USA for eons. But for a couple of pen marks the MSE way is just some ordinary spirit based undercoat which its almost inevitable that the OP will have in the shed / garage.
