Blackberry Sim cards! Are they a scam?

The reason I ask this question is my daughter has a Blackberry with a O2 simplicity SIM, It works perfectly fine BBM and App world all work. It is £10 prepay a month, unlimited texts £5 and the rest is data, but she is getting to an age where I would like her to have some minutes too for piece of mind. I have found a deal on Tesco Mobile for £10 pcm, 12 month capped contract. When I spoke to an advisor they said she would have to have a specific Blackberry SIM at £12.50 a month. Can anyone shed any light?

Don't know about Appworld, but BBM is an extra service. I don't know if there are any operators that don't charge for it.0

If you having BB, and using facebook or whatsapp or bb messenger then you need BB services, even if you on wireless you still need blackberry data service in order to access bb services.0
-
I am pretty sure that you don't need BB services for using whatsapp and you can install, say, Opera browser and access internet without BB services.0

It is certainly a lot of effort with bb services. Orange don't charge any extra on their sim only plans and neither do Vodafone but Tesco would probably still be cheaper.0 -
vodafone do charge more for blackberry tariffs, Im on one.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Thanks you for replying. I just can't understand how all bbm services are working on O2 simplicity when I don't have a blackberry bolt on.0

O2 Simplicity has Unlimited Texts for £5??
Thought their cheapest tariff was £7.50.
GiffGaff is £5.0 -
I have never had a blackberry but when they were having problems last year I thought I had heard that their popularity was due to their messaging services being free. So that is not the case then?0

Do Blackberrys not have a messaging ability to cope with POP3 accounts then ?0

The main features of a Blackberry use a service provided by the makers and this is the "Blackberry Service" or "BIS" you see mentioned for Blackberry tarrifs.
If the phone is on O2, I THINK Tesco will "just work" without locking but I would get a PAYG SIM and try it first, if calls work it will all work. There may be a few settings to change, but you will know that the phone won't need unlocking.0
