Stolen car damage

Hi
My car was stolen on saturday night, involved in a police chase where the police ended up ramming him off the road as he was becoming a danger to the general public.
Now im not bothered about my car as its a old shed and not worth losing my no claims for, but now the police are saying they are gonna claim against my insurance to cover the damage to thier squad car.
Is this allowed? I thought there was a seperate pot for people to claim against uninsured drivers!
Thanks!

It depends if the driver at the time was caught/ identified.
If they werent then you are right, there is a pot of money that is there under the "untraced driver agreement".
If they were then your insurers, as the RTA insurers of the vehicle, are responsible for picking up the bill for any liabilities. Technically they have the right to recover the money from the driver but generally the types of people that go round taking others cars arent the sort that are able to afford to settle claims.
That said, it is only if the driver is liable for the damages. If the police intentionally rammed the vehicle there would have to be a question of liability there.... personally not one I ever came across and wouldnt want to have a guess without seeing caselaw0
