Just a thought but if OP said it was a legit transfer from a friend so didn't get the transfer direct from Wonga, could they still chase him/her for the money? As it seems the loan is in their name..

    We need more details :D

Is that your interpretation of the case as i think thats how i see it once reading that.

Additionally, your friend needs some education when it comes to managing money if they have used Wonga.

    Yeah, that's how I saw it :)

Although reckless as Wonga are, it wouldn't seem possible that a loan could be taken out in OP's name, whilst the money is sent to a bank account held under a different name (OP's friend).. So it still doesn't explain why OP got the email?

I don't mean to preach and you frankly have a fantastic friend, but they went to Wonga in order to help you! This is absolutely terrible and so dangerous for them. It's the modern equivalent of the shady bloke in the pub and about as helpful. If it was me, I would return the money tomorrow morning and thank them, but nip this in the bud before it all gets very unpleasant and you end up minus a friend and they end up seriously out of pocket. No one should be using a PDL if they value their credit file.
