Replacement Power Supply for Laptop

I have an old HP compaq nx 9005 with no power supply that was working fine last time it was plugged in (about 2 years ago!). Only reason we stopped using it was that the battery would not hold a charge and the old power adapter "pin" was not making good contact with the jack (the pin looked sort of corroded inside) so mains power could not be maintained.
Would now like to get it up and running again, just for very basic tasks and as a spare really. I think with a good clean up - as per the excellent thread here and with a new power supply this is possible.
My question is re sourcing a compatible power adapter as the genuine HP ones are quite expensive and pennies are in short supply at the moment. Does anyone have any recommendations on good compatible suppliers? I also vaguely remember on a previous thread that it might be worth replacing the jack too so any advice gratefully received
TIA
Edit: have done a quick google search and now find i have to know the exact input and output voltage of original power supply...I no longer have that power supply to check - is there any other way I can find out?
