Hello,
I was hoping for some advice -
I booked a holiday through 'On The Beach' last winter. Most of their holidays included transfers. Mine didn't. I understood that their website offered an online discount so when I called to add the transfers I was very careful that the price I was paying matched the online price. My original holiday was £367.22, with transfers, £433.29. I asked the 'On The Beach' telesales lady if this included nearly £70.00 for transfers, she said yes. I didn't think anything more of it until I went on the holiday. Taxi transfers from the airport were £15.00 return. The 'On The Beach' transfer was via minibus so I began doubting the value for money of my transfers. I checked the paper work at my hotel. £433.29 was constructed from very different prices I was expecting.
I had originally expected to pay £236 for the flight, this went up to £335.00 when I added transfers. I was paying £52.00 for baggage, nothing on the new price. £5.00 for ATOL, nothing on new charge. £85.14 for the hotel, £83.00 for the hotel second time around. No online discount the second time, £10.92 on the website when I tried to book initially. The second pricing structure also included £7.00 TRANSFER!!! and £8.29 card charges.
I sent a letter (50p/minute for customer services!!!! How are they allowed to charge this???!! - one for another day) to 'On The Beach' detailing all of these items and suggesting that they listen to the phone call. They wrote back to say that they had and there was no evidence the holiday was mis-sold.
Had I known that the phone call would have unnecessarily increased my holiday by £60.00. I would have declined the £7.00 transfer, booked online, and would have made other arrangements for the transfer.
I was about to bin their letter after a spring clean and decided to google OTB reviews. Not good. It appears that their pricing structures are in no way consistant. I had written the money off, anything I get back would be a bonus, but I'm more interested in improving the 'fairness' of OTB. Had the sales lady corrected my assumption that the price increase was purely for transfers I would have been able to assess the value of the my holiday correctly.
Many thanks,
