How to check if online shop is real
Comments
-
There are a number of points to consider before placing an order:
- Dialling code for Worksop is not 01132
- Postcode for address given is S81 8ND not N90
- Largest unit on site is 220 sq meters - a fraction of the size of a warehouse needed to carry their stock. Admin alone would use that space and more
- Website written in American English
- A Samsung plasma TV is £95 cheaper than Richer sounds who have massive buying power

I think it's a scam. If you think it's too good to be true, then maybe it really is. I suggest don't go for it. Online shops are difficult to trust unless they made such great reputation as Amazon and eBay. Those two are the only ones I trust so much.0

Just received the following E-mail from Witur in response to my E-mail to them about supplying an alternate payment method.
[Dear costumer
Now on witur.net available PayPal ,
only in manual mode, make transfers to
vaidotasstankunas@yahoo.co.uk
PayPal merchant services - will be available
how soon it's impossible
for quick and secure online payments.
Best wishes
The Witur Team.]
Similar suspect English as our friend 'Steve Robson'. Anyone know what 'manual mode' is? Does this allow them to receive payments undetected? Has anyone, apart from 'Steve Robson' received an item from them. When I submitted my order it came up that I was transaction 38, so people must be using the site.0 -
Steve Robson is probably related to David Bekkham and Micheal Owwen, who both worked in an Indian call centre for Tiscali.
No https in the checkout, no certificate, no "green url". IMHO youll never see your money again, nor you washing machine.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
Dear costumer? I'd be more worried about how they knew you were a person or company that makes or supplies theatrical or fancy-dress costumes. :rotfl:
Perhaps we could make a clown suit for them
But seriously, people, It is a scam site, everyone apart from the "so-called" Steve Robson now knows it is a scam site. I don't really think it is worth adding to their Google hits by bumping this thread (even though I've now done it myself)
SPCome on people, it's not difficult: lose means to be unable to find, loose means not being fixed in place. So if you have a hole in your pocket you might lose your loose change.0 -
We foolishly found an amazing deal (through google shopping like the other chap) and my husband went ahead with transaction. Imagine what a d*ck he feels now, clearly we will never be seeing that money again... :-(0

If a bank won't trust them with card processing facilities why you should you trust them with your money. Remember you have little protection (if any) when you pay by bank transfer. The same goes for payments by paypal.0

Apologies if this is the wrong forum to ask, but I found a great deal for a washing machine I am after and went through the checkout process, but then they don't take any cards, only bank transfer.
The website is witur.net
The domain seems to be recently registered privately
The advertised postal address is a bit dodgy:
Witur Store
London, Shireoaks Colliery Business Centre, Worksop N90
and the bank account they want me to transfer the cash to is quoting business name "Witur Electronics" which I can't findregistered with te company house in England.
What do people think? Is it real or scam? Any other ideas on how could I check?
Thanks

I've just come across this site tonight while looking for a TV.
The price was ridiculous, but I assumed it was excluding VAT. When I test placed something in the shopping basket then started looking around, it just seemed dodgy. The VAT wasn't mentioned at all, and I found the same issues with the addresses, etc.
I hope too many people aren't being caught out by this guy
I've reported the site to actionfraud.police.uk. I'm not sure if they can do anything, but it's worth a shot I suppose.
I'd strongly suggest that anyone who has been caught out by this reports it to the police as soon as possible, and to their bank. Obviously with the money going by bank transfer in most cases you're not in the best position, but again it can't harm to report it.
I wonder if they thought to use an IP anonymiser when they signed up to this forum to place that post from 'Steve'...0 -
Can't believe people are suggesting that it "MAY be a scam". Of course it's a scam!!!!!!!!!0
