3 mobile bb problems

Hi I was wondering if I could pick your brains about a problem I've been having with my 3 mobile broadband.

When I click to connect to the internet all appears well, I have full signal strength and my connection type is HSPA and it connects fine however, there is where my problems begin as the web page won't actually load. I'll sit there with a blank screen like it's trying to load. If I try to type in another site, for example MSE, it still does nothing, but if I click to disconnect my connection the web page magically appears. Once reconnected again, I have to go through this process of clicking through to the page I actually want, by disconnecting and reconnecting again and again. It will do this maybe 3 or 4 times, then it'll work normally after that. But once I'm done browsing and shut my laptop down and want to go on again later I have to go through the whole process again.

I have spoken to tech support at 3, but the guy couldn't really work out why it was happening. So he asked me to take the dongle to the 3 Store so they could try it and see if it worked on a different computer, which it did, but the guy in the shop only tried it once, so I'm not sure if it was just a fluke or not, as it has worked first time a couple of times since this started happening. He did try to call me back today about it but I missed him and can't call back 'til tomorrow, hence why I'm wondering if anyone on here can help?

I have Windows 7 and use Firefox and have the free version of AVG installed I have tried it on Google Chrome and IE but it's the same for all the browsers. I've been using the dongle and 3 for over a year without any problems, this all started on Thursday morning. I would really appreciate it if anyone has any ideas of what's causing this or how it could fixed. Many thanks in advance.

  • Do you live in London? I do, and I have had many disconnections in the last few days. I do get some white screens.

  • No I'm not in London, not even close. I'm all the way up in Inverness!

It's very strange I can't work out what's going on with it and it's highly frustrating.

Try changing your DNS servers to Open DNS or Google servers.

Boot up with a Live CD such Ubuntu(The Try option) to see if it's a Windows problem or is really the modem.

I use 3 mobile, but I found I got better service using the mobile broadband APN (3internet). In the past few days though I've had the same problems you've described, so I had to switch back to the standard mobile APN, this is in Leeds. I wonder if there's a national issue
  • I know that sometimes the service deteriorates when 3 work on their networks.

Things seem a little better this morning, although I have not been online very long.

I should probably have mentioned that I don't really have any know how when it comes to these things, so that post is rather lost on me :o If you can elaborate a little bit it would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Spoke to 3 again today and while the woman I spoke to was very pleasant, I'm still having the same problems. She's going to get it looked into but could take up to 7 days...Not overly happy with that, but I don't suppose there's much else I can do. Thinking about cancelling the one month rolling contract that I took out them just before this started though.

Could be the weather or something.

I've had problems with T-Mobile the past few days in Edinburgh.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.
