Isle of Wight ferry help

Looking at booking a private caravan in Whitecliffe Bay for a week in a couple of weeks but had not realised how expensive the ferry was, almost £100 for the return journey. Anybody know of a cheap way of getting across, dont fancy the midnight offers that Wightlink are offering lol. Any help gratefully appreciated.

I cannot help with the ferry (although I knoew you can use Tesco points as we did) The site youve booked is lovely we had a fab time!Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
The Red Funnel service is currently doing a car + up to 7 passengers for £36.50 or something close to that amount. Not sure if that is a day return only. But even two day returns is cheaper than the £100.
The service runs out of Southampton instead of Portsmouth.0 -
I just booked with hoseasons as it worked out cheaper than many of the private caravans. They also do free ferry crossing for several of their isle of wight parks. We booked Lower Hyde in Shanklin which included the ferry. Might be worth having a look.0

Worth ringing up Wightlink and talking to one of their advisors, I've always found them very helpful in finding the cheapest fares for getting across to the Island. Unfortunatley it was always said to be the most expensive ferry crossing in the world on a per mile rate!
If you belong to the camping club you used to be able to get a bit of a discount, or as someone else said, use tesco clubcard vouchers.
On the point of the 2 day crossings versus one return, I seem to remember that in the small print it does say that you can't do this and they reserve the right to charge you the difference if you don't use the day crossings properly, if you see what I mean.0 -
1. Tesco vouchers
2. ask caravan owners if they have any insider ideas
3. phone wightlink as previously suggested
4. phone caravan site as they may have access to offers if you book ferry thru them.
Good luck but most of all enjoy the lovely island. We will be there in August....:cool:Andyboy :idea:0 -
I was told by someone who lives on the island to buy single tickets. This is the cheapest way....
I was told this after paying £175 for a return! I shall use the single ticket method in Sept......Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!0 -
red funnel usually work out cheaper for some reason.
I know you dont want to do the midnight crossing but by changing the time it can make the prices vary quite a bit0 -
1) Tesco vouchers
2) Red Funnel is cheaper than Wightlink
3) Unsocial travel times.
Other than that there isn't a cheaper way. If I hadn't used Tesco vouchers my midday Saturday August return would have cost £188.0 -
thanks for all the in put guys but have booked a week on the broads, got an offer i could not refuse lol0
