AOL log-in problem

Ive just added AOL software to my new computer and as Im already an AOL user ive tried logging on as an existing member...only it wont let me, it gets to step 6 (checking password) but doesnt go any further, I just get that annoying egg timer thingy for a few minutes then the Sign-On screen completely disappears...yet it will let me log on to AOL as a Guest using my screen names.

Ive phoned AOL techincal help in India but I may aswell have been speaking English coz I couldnt get any helpful advice other than are you using the correct password!!?? (the fact it doesnt even get as far as me entering my name & password seemed to pass him by!) or was told to re-install your software which Ive done twice but to no avail....ive checked my old computer and that still allows me to log in as normal so i cant understand why its just the new computer that wont let me...surely if there was a problem with the AOL software ive installed it wouldnt let me log on at all

Has anybody else had a similar problem or know what I can do to rectify it?..(I know I should be grateful for any sort of connection with AOL but I would like to log on 'normally' as signing on as a guest doesnt allow access to billing details, bookmarked favourites etc etc and as i wont have my old computer for much longer id really like AOL on the new lap top to work as it should)

Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

See step 6 here which I believe could be your problem.
We recommend that you create a new Screen Name which your router can use to connect to AOL - because if you use an existing Screen Name, your router will lose its connection to AOL if you sign on from another location using that same Screen Name.

  • Im not using a wireless router though...using my old BT Voyager 105 modem from my other lap top, who's screen has died hence buying a new one (old one's hooked up to a desk top monitor so i can still access my music downloads, AOL etc...able to continue using both comps by swapping the modem over)

This is the 3rd computer Ive had and when I installed AOL onto the old lap top (i.e the second one, my first comp being a desk top) i had no problems at all, existing member log on not a problem, so I know what should be happening with the sign-on screen on the new lap top...but its not

Thanks for taking the time to look that up for me though

Regardless of what you are using to connect, you could still try creating another screen name to confirm that it is not the problem. Personally I would not have installed the AOL bloatware on the new computer!
