Over charged by British Gas

We have recently had some money problems like everyone else in the country. We had to have our gas and electric meters changed to pre-payment ones, through which we agreed to pay £6.00 on each per week. Less than a week into using them British Gas sent us a letter stating it would be £16.50 each per week. My wife called to get this changed back, to which we were told we would have to top up £1.00 per day. We have done this every day since being told, we ended up going into the emergency credit. Now yesterday I tried to top up £10.00 because of how low the gas was getting, the meter took £9.00 for the debt and the £1.00 was put towards the gas. Again today I've had to top-up £5.00 because the gas was down to £.40p of emergency credit, again it took more money for the debt leaving us with £0.61p. I've called British Gas and was told I'd have to lend money to top-up again because there is nothing they will do :mad:. I informed them they have broke the credit agreement by taking more money than agreed but got the same answer of I will have to lend money to get Gas.
Is there anything I can do to get them to sort out the gas so I can at least give my kids a shower and heat?
