Hi . I want to book tickets for 2 adults with 2 toddlers. I have £90 worth of vouchers to use up with Red Spotted Hanky . I picked the trains I wanted - Not used RSH before , so I rang to find out if I WOULD definitely get a table if I clicked that as my preference , because you dont see the seat numbers youre allocated, BEFORE you agree to go ahead with the purchase and it would be useless if the family were to be split , or had to try and occupy the toddlers without a table surface .
The agent said we would get a table IF there was one, but no it couldnt be guaranteed . I asked about other kinds of tickets I could get seat numbers given on - and 'Reserved' seats were the answer, but they were a horrendous cost !
I wonder why booking companies cant make life easier by leaving the buying button till the end when you can see whether what you are buying is suitable for your needs!!!!
RSH will lose out now because Ill need to book direct on the phone with Virgin, and Ill lose out because I cant use my vouchers.

    .

But you DO get to see them before you finally commit yourself. If you don't like them you can try again and remove one booking before you commit to payment.

Are you absolutely sure - definitely the RSH site? I ask because the agent actually set up my requirements his end on the page and told me he couldnt see the ticket numbers without committing fully?

A further thought - If you were to get the ticket numbers, would you be able to tell from those if youd got the four around a table? I dont know how they are numbered, could consecutive numbers work out that you got two on one table and two in the table behind or opposite for instance I wonder ? I dont do train travel often enough to know .

You are not obliged to sit in the reserved seats, you can move to any non-reserved seats.

Yes I am sure - I've done it myself on several occasions when splitting tickets to try and get the same seat for the whole journey. Usually but not always successfully.

You have a point about not knowing the seating plan though - there are seating plans online but not always up to date ones.

Problem is , if the train is busy the tables go first so not easy to secure or swap . You cant leg it down the train looking either with toddlers in tow.You move at a slow drag lol.
