I agree with lithopsian, when I asked EDF for my £300 back it was back in my bank the next couple of days. you are obviously paying far too much a month. You could just switch to pay on the bill to avoid all this guesswork in bill paying.Put your annual kwhs use in a comp site and switch and kick em where it hurts for their cheek

    Thanks for all the advice
I've already e-mailed customer services so i have evidence that i have contacted them.I will call again tomorrow and see what response i get and i will follow up with a letter(recorded delivery)
I consider myself very lucky that hubby has a good job but that DD really stretched our budget - dread to think what could happen to an OAP or someone on benefits - could have caused serious problems!!
Thanks again everyone and i'll keep you updated

When they upped your DD were you checking the bills that the meter reads and the meter serial number were correct? Make sure you give this information again when you ask for a refund. I would then monitor your consumption so you know exactly how much you are using. At a guess with such a high credit balance the company will have extra checks to do before refunding the money to you.

Suppliers have an obligation to ensure they don't put their customers into debt situations, this is exactly the same issue. I can't believe anyone could ever look at an account that is continually escalating in credit and say the DD is correct.

Definite complaint and consider interest lost and hopefully they will give you a gesture of goodwill payment that will cover that.

Regardless of rubbish systems, its a common sense issue!
