Cleaning/treating decking?

Hi, I was just wondering ifanyone knew the best way to clean decking and what to treat it/paint it with?
Just moved into a house with decking in the garden but it's a bit slimy!! I was planning on using a pressure washer but we now have a hosepipe ban, I presume we still do even with all this rain.
Thanks in advance?

For cleaning scrub in some diluted Jeyes Fluid. £3 a can in Asda is the best price around at the moment unless anyone knows better. Follow the instructions on the can. There are other fluids and ways too.

Watering can of water with bleach kills mould obviously use caution near plants but I have plants nearby and it was fine. You can get decking cleaner. I find its best on a sunny day but thats seems rare probably best to let wood dry out after all this rain. I also use a soft brush to scrub the bleach in might need two applications
Soda crystals also kills mould0 -
Funnily enough went out onto the decking on the first dry day in weeks this morning and well and truly slipped and skidded - almost into the pond....!
Take care out there!0 -
Yes pressure washer best way to clean it. Luckily I did mine a week before the ban. If this rain continues then hopefully the ban will soon be lifted.
If there is a water butt in the garden, you can attach the pressure washer to that to enable you to clean the decking. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I agree - pressure washer is the way to go. You can get a special hose that you drop into a water butt I believe. Likewise I made sure I did mine just before the ban :-)
In the shady areas of our decking which become slippery I treated with special 'anti slip decking paint' after pressure washing (and drying) which is like a kind of invisible varnish with tiny granules in it that provides a slightly rough surface. Has been on 18 months and still working well so those bits didn't even need rewashing this spring.0
