My brother has written his English coursework on his laptop all in capitals
He now has to redo it, but is there an easy way he can just change it without re-writing it all?

It depends on whether he has actually typed the work with caps lock on or used the All Caps format.
If he used caps lock, he needs to highlight the text and press Shift+F3 to toggle between lower, upper and initial capitals.
If he is using All caps, he can highlight and press ctrl+shift+A to switch off the format.
Hope that helps
