HP Officejet 4500 or Epson Stylus SX435W?

Hi

Making a buying decision for a relative, mainly printing black text, cartridge price is high on the list, will not refill or use compatible. My understanding is that HP 901 (9ml?) cartridges are approx £11 delivered, Epson T1291 (11ml?) approx £13 delivered. Do these figures seem about right?

Epson SX435 is a new model and it will be around 6 months before compatibles are available. I had the same problem when i bought SX425W. Am able to buy compatibles at £4/5. Please check if compatibles are available when u decide on a product. With Epson you only need to replace the one which has run out unlike others.

Thanks jayship, but the owner won't use compatibles due to the problems they caused with an existing HP machine. Have I got the part numbers right for the cartridge? In which case the running costs are probably not that different.

Manufactures sell printers cheaply and make money on original cartridges. I have had no problems using compatibles on Epson. For the cost of a set of original cartridges you can pick up a new printer. It may be worth trying out with a single refill. There will be others on the forum who are more experienced.

The compatibles i bought are numbered T1291/2/3/4. 13ml each

High capacity originals work out cheaper per print although slightly more expensive to buy.
