All inclusive in Majorca - good or bad idea??

We're thinking of going to Majorca with our 2 year old son in June.
Want to go all inc. so we can forget about money when we're out their.
Would like somewhere thats great for the young one with good entertainment at night for all, any recommendations!!
Is it essential I go to a min 4 star to ensure a quality holiday?
Done all inc. far away places but never in europe! Can anyone tell me, is there a big difference in service, quality between the 2?
Any help much appreciated.

Allthough I havent been on an AI only on HB, I have stayed in both 3* and 4*'s in the Cannaries and Balerics. Speaking from personal experience star ratings can sometimes be a bit hit and miss as i have stayed in 3*'s that havent been much different to a 4* but have also stayed in others where a 4* was much better quality than a 3* by far, it just depends! Also ratings between different tour operators often vary and vary again from a hotels "Official Star Rating"!!.

Anyway I am starting to ramble now and probably not making that much sense!, but basically if you find a hotel you like check it out on the following websites and make sure it checks out!:

    http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/

Also when looking at the reviews make sure they are recent as hotels can vary tremendously from one year to the next, and also look at the ones when people travelled on dates close to when you want to go as you sometimes find useful info e.g " Hotel was great but Childrens Club wasnt running this time of year".

Anyway hope this helps and have a nice holiday :)

Although it is true that by going full board you can have most of the holiday paid before you go,there will still be extras-usually drink for starters.
And what if one of you doesn't oike the food, even tho' it comes recommended?Even if
the food is fine, you may wish for a change if you are there for two weeks.

Four star are normally better than 3,but the meals also tend to be higher priced. And they often tend to be a bit formal, which is not what you want with a youngster. So
different local restaurants each night, especially if there are some on the harbour or
marina with the sea lapping at your feet can make a nice change.Your son might like it too.Nothing like a bit of a paddle between courses.
Bear in mind that touristy restaurants can serve up some dreadful food-a recommend
would be helpful-often the hotel staff know the places to avoid and good fish
restaurants for example. You might even find a Chinese.

Whatever you decide,I hope you enjoy it.

    I've had mixed experiences.

The all inclusive drinks are a real money saver, not just on an evening, but all the soft drinks you consume during the day. It's more refreshing to get an iced drink from the bar than sipping a warm bottle of water/pop from your bag. My two also enjoyed the unlimited free ice creams!

The first hotel we stayed in was 3 star and by the end of the fortnight we were really bored with the food. There was usually 2-3 main courses to choose from. Veal and a seafood option were on every meal, along with chips. There wasn't often a alternative potato option. We ate out a couple of times just for a change.

I then stayed in a 4 star complex, which was a nice surprise as it was a cheap allocation on arrival deal. The meals there were fantastic. There was lots of choice every day and little repetition. They also had a bread oven and a pizza oven, so you could get both cooked freshly - yum! I have to admit my jeans were quite tight on the journey home :o

Majorcans are not great at desserts though. In both hotels there was fruit and ice cream every day, usually a sponge cake with very vivid coloured jelly on top and a mousse or custard style dessert.
Here I go again on my own....

In general, I haven't been impressed with AI. I like to eat out and see that as a big part of my holiday. I went AI in Mexico and it was great for the drinks but the food never varied; refried beans 3 times a day etc. I've been AI in the Maldives where there wasn't much option and food and drink was expensive. I wouldn't consider it in Spain or Majorca where eating out is not expensive but its a lot different when you've got small children.

It can be a bit hit and miss, I would advise that you give "family hotels" a miss, and go for one that caters for children not revolves round them if you know what I mean. We made that mistake and you get thousands of kids running amok everywhere, which although I have kids is not what mine do. We're just in the process of booking for this year, and have looked at the sites mentioned above along with https://www.holidaywatchdog.com and think if you want really decent all inclusive then canaries are a better bet. We've found if you book by companies who print their reviews ie "80% found the food excellent" etc help too, as you have a more honest idea of what the hotel is like

sometimes I've found the AI hotels seem to be away from the centre of things..I'd check the locations too.

Majorca is ideal for a family holiday though...I love it. Head north or east though ...alcudia, porto pollensa, sa coma. personally I'd avoid the magaluf type areas in the south with young kids...although not too much of a problem in june.
hire a car ..theres loads to see away from the resorts.

Add it up. If you go in high season you could be paying £800 + each. Better to be choosing where you eat. That way if your son wants a "big mac" he can have one.I've only done AI twice, the first time 4* great food we were there for a weekend, but I doubt I could have lasted a fortnight. Second time 3* food --YUK -- eat out every night.
IOM B+B and eat where you want
  • We have seen too many people trying this in Majorca - but without success - you always seen many people with the wristbands on eating out in Local Bars which are not expensive. They also seem to complain they are paying for all inclusive but end up paying again when going out.
