Boiler insurance for Tenants

Hi,
Just wondering if I can buy my own Boiler insurance cover even though I'm renting? I ask because the agency I rent through take the p*ss when it comes to Boiler repairs, sometimes taking up to 4 weeks to fix anything! I know it's their/the landlords responsibilitity to sort the Boiler out but seriously it's not worth the hassle getting in touch with them to sort anything!
So I'd rather cover myself (if I can get Boiler insurance) so if any problems I know 1 phone call and it will take less than 4 weeks to get sorted!
Thanks for any suggestions.

I would suggest you call the providers, or just start with British Gas, they also have a instant messaging service through their website so you can get an answer without phoning.
Have you discussed with your landlord, I have cover for my properties and it's not a lot of money!
Tenants should ask these questions before they take on a rental it's just as important as the cost of rent!0 -
Would your LL allow this?
We're not allowed to do anything here, we must go through our LL for any repair.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Why would the LL want anyone else looking at their boiler?
If they are slack at repairs then:
put repairs in writing (email a copy but say in the email that you are sending a copy by post too)
If they don't do repairs quick enough then contact the environmental health or the council's private sector tenancy officer, or the CAB for more advice.
4 weeks without heating and hot water is horrible.
But if you LL is bad at repairs look for a new rental.0 -
And if your boiler engineer says there is a problem which will cost £X0o to fix? (some insurances have a max limit). Or he condemns the boiler and says a new one is needed?
Then the LL says this was an unauthorised inspection/service and the engineer could have caused the damage/problem.
YOU could end up responsible as you have circumnavigated the LL's responsbility, an arranged unauthorised work on the boiler.0 -
