I'm not bitter about my neighbours! I'm interested to know whether they grant them permission, and if so, I will be back to the council to see where we stand.
It isn't a covenant, it is a planning condition that was set when the developer submitted the plans back in 2002. That parking spaces should remain as parking spaces.
Unfortunately there isn't room to build on the back of the house, nor is it possible to convert the loft as we were told the loft isn't even strong enough to use as storage space.
I've already measured the front of the property and there isn't room to add another parking space. (we are a one car family btw).
I think what we will look into doing is resubmitting plans as a dining room and also submit plans to drop the kerb at the back of the house and have a driveway in the back garden. We will also have to keep the shed as the council are keen that houses have a cycle store. It will mean that our garden will be basically just a parking space, but I think it is the only option. We will never park a car in the garden anyway.
Guess it just increases the price of a conversion dramatically because dropped kerbs aren't cheap are they?! Plus part of the fence will have to be replaced by a 6ft high double gate.
