Getting to Butlins Skegness from MAnchester

Managed to book Butlins in Skegness for 11th of June with the Sun tokens. Now just need to get there. I've been looking at the fares for the trains and it'll cost £91.50 return for myself and my 6yr old, taking around 4hrs 20mins. Was just wondering if that was the quickest cheapest way to do it. I did look at traveling by coach but the return journey went via London , taking over 17 hrs . If anyone has any advise or information they could share I would be very grateful :o

What about going via Leeds should be less than going to London, check megabus..
Will be worth the trek I know that butlins well as mother in law lives 20 miles from skeggie..facilities are outstanding..
I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...

Thanks Elle. I think the journey down goes via leeds it's the journey home was going via London. I've checked the megabus site but they don't seem to go to Skegness. :o And we're really looking forward to going however we end up getting there :D
  • just priced up manchester to skeggy - according to national enquires website it would take 3hr 34mins only snag is that involves 2 changes, which may be rather annoying...:(

anyway priced 1 adult 1 child will be £70.50, but if you buy a family rail card the price would be reduced to £51.85. Again thier is a snag the rail card cost something like £28 at the mo - I did have a quick check for discounts on this but couldn't see any. but once you have the card it will save on other train journeys should you use it again. hope this info helps in some way.

ps on the way back the train only involves 1 change :)
  • Have you looked at split ticketing for the train, perhaps buying a ticket to Nottingham and then on to Skeg? You could even change between the train and the coach in Nottingham - the stations are minutes apart.

For the last few years the Daily Mail have run a promotion where you can get a free family railcard that lasts about 2 months, usually valid from sometime in May till the end of July. I used mine last year for a hol in June.
Then after it runs out you can renew it for an annual one that costs less than the usual price. It's anytime around now that the paper runs it.

Thank you so much everyone. I'll have a look at the national rail site, and check out the cost of split ticketing as well. I'll keep an eye out for the railcard promo in the Mail, that 'd be very handy to have. I had planned to try for Southport with the Sun tokens so had the journey sorted for that, I 'd put Butlins in as a random choice and got very excited when it showed up as available and grabbed it without checking how we'd get there :o

Just checked how much it would cost to split the tickets and it's coming up at £76.65 return for both of us, going from Manchester to Nottingham and Nottingham to Skegness , so that looks good:j Thanks so much again to everyone xxx
