oil in exhaust?
Hi just obtained a petrol lawn mower and it has oil in the plug hole and oil came out of the exhaust when i got it running, does this means the rings are goosed?
Not to sure how long it has been standing the last owner said it cut out every now and again, but the plug was oiled up and a very smal gap when i took it out and replaced it.

Don't take anything I say as the complete truth but I am sure if its a 2 stroke engine you will need to mix oil in with the petrol when you are using it, this may explain the oil.
Someone who knows more about this than me will no doubt clear this up!0 -
maybe a 2 stroke?
these are meant to oil0 -
No it is a four stroke or rather it takes normal petrol

it might be a case of gummed up rings
try getting it well hot and see if it smokes, this will confirm piston blow by
cut the lawn while it warms up:D;)0 -

Maybe someone tilted it the wrong way i.e. carb./air cleaner downwards when looking underneath. That lets sump oil get into the combustion chamber and air cleaner. Check the latter. If so then no great harm done - new air filter element, clean out filter housing and get a new plug. Lots of smoke when it first runs but it will clear. I speak from experience.0 -
Checked the oil level? Been overfilled or someone thought it was a 2 stroke and added oil to the fuel?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
