silicone spray or WD40

Had my drivers side electric window "pop out" of it's runners today, which was great in the rain.
Got home and got the Haynes manual out and managed to get the door trim off to have a look. I now have the window closed and have thought that I had better get some silicone spray for the runners. Before I go and buy some is it the same as WD40 which I have already, or should I get the silicone spray?

silicone spray is a dry lubricant and you can use it for your dash board to polish it.
Also some household polish's have silicone in them to

I wouldnt use WD40 on the runners usless you want to wipe the oil off every day for a while but it should work just the same

Furniture polish works, if you use the type with silicone.

you dont say what car but a lot of windows stay in the runner by a little plastic clip,if this has broken then your window will still keep popping out
fork handles are good as lubricant, just use one though

Are the runners not greased? Usually a sticky grease to keep it in place.

Just been out and given the windows a go and they went up and down nice and smooth, when (or if it ever) it stops raining I will do the job again properly, but so far it has done the job.

Unfortunately if its a Rover 600, the mechanism bends like toffee under the weakest strain. You can bend it straight just loosening off the bottom card clips (a quick fix when you are doing it often!) but it really needs a new mechanism, it being properly set up and a healthy, regular squirt of silicone spray.
