This man made me very angry, and the Telegraph reporter should be shot for his lack of research and giving this numpty this publicity. No wonder people think unemployed people don't want jobs.

A numpty for giving the unemployed a chance and then being let down when they did not turn up?0

I saw this a few days ago and to be honest what he was offering in the matter of wages was laughable to say the least and probably in violation of NMW. He offered only £100 per week plus commission but you have to be a sales person and not everyone is cut out for that job.0

theres a thread about this in DT which explains why the people who didn't turn up probably had a lucky escape.

He was paying below NMW for the first few weeks then all seems to be commission based salary and I wonder why he has 7 jobs vacant all at the same time? If he seriously offered 7 unemployed people the jobs and they accepted they are now in breach of the JC agreement and can be sanctioned surely so I am I right to think he has reported them?
Not all unemployed are work shy at all and so much as the people who didn't turn up idiots, so is this bloke.0 -

So why did they accept the job? If what you say is true (and I have no reason to doubt you), they should have reported the employer to the JCP. They would not have been sanctioned in such circumstances, and such a story would not have been published, hence not damaging the reputation of the unemployed.0 -
I would never accept a job that paid below NMW been there done that never again, they accepted the job without thinking about it properly i guess. The story was more than likely a bit of PR for the bloke whose company it is and all publicity is good publicity.
For me anyone at the jobcentre should be having their cards marked for letting a job go live on their system that actively promotes pay below NMW.0 -
Here's a job ad for these vacancies, he actually isn't offering a wage - just OTE without a basic salary. I expect people don't want to risk losing their only income (benefits) when this "self employed" job doesn't guarantee a wage at all.
Besides, we don't know what he said to these people ahead of them supposedly starting work - or if he even gave them the correct information. This job is basically the equivalent of working in a bar, but only getting paid a percentage of every drink you sell - if there are no customers walking through the door, you go home after a day's work with no pay. Wrong!
Like the OP I certainly don't think he actually cares about jobs seekers, he just either wanted cheap labour or a PR Story.

Same here. These types of telesales roles often advertise wages that lure people in (usually desperate), which then turns out to pay below minimum wage and has unrealistic targets to make up the rest.I would never accept a job that paid below NMW been there done that never again, they accepted the job without thinking about it properly i guess. "These are people who are so morally twisted that they would rather stay on the dole than work - they are without enthusiasm for it."
I wonder if he told them about the tax credits and benefits that they could claim, i.e. the taxpayer subsidising his business. I think I will make my own mind up about who is morally bankrupt

They are in a place of desperation, hopelessness and have probably faced chronic poverty both in oppertunities and financially.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
