Advice on selling a car

Just looking for some advice on selling my car.
I'm in the process of looking for another car therefore need to sell my current car. Ideally I want to sell my current car as soon as I have the new, basically I don't want two cars at once.
The trade-in value of my car is too low so I'm looking for a private sale.
What would you all recommend doing:
a) Sell my current car, travel by public transport until get new car
b) wait until have new car to sell old
c) any other suggestions.
Also Could some one give me a guide to insurance, while in the process of waiting for the old car to sell but say driving the new (or driving the old and keeping new on road), or What would happen if I sold my current car but still kept it insured until I transfered it to the new car.

I had a similar problem, however when I bought my new car I could delay the pickup by a week. My car sold in 2days, and had to borrow a friends until the weekend.
I too was offered a pathetic offer trade-in for my old car (in fact less than half the price I sold it for).
Personally, whack it on autotrader with 3weeks on the web, with 2weeks in the magazine. Then if there is no offers by the next week, drop the price to make it the cheapest for that type. If it still doesn't sell, slash the price until it does. I think the cut off is Monday evening for the magazine.
You could also try ebay classifieds, which is cheap, but I find you get more time wasters on there.0 -
Adding, if you have two cars it does cause a problem with insurance as you have to have continuous insurance now, or SORN it (if you SORN it you can't have road tax for it) which then causes problems for the person buying it.
I got 7days free insurance when I bought my new (2nd hand car) so effectively I had two weeks to sell it before I would encounter this issue.0 -
If I SORN the car (as the tax is up this month), do you know if it still needs insurance?Save in 2013: #166: 9,122.51/[STRIKE]5,000[/STRIKE] 10,000Interest earned in 2014: £257.61 20/04/140

If you SORN the car you must keep it off the road but it does not need to be insured no. However, this can be very risky as it's not covered should it get stolen.0 -

Also, as the OP is going to sell privately how will a new buyer test drive it legally?0 -

That's the problem isn't it. In addition, how will they have adequate insurance for a test drive?Save in 2013: #166: 9,122.51/[STRIKE]5,000[/STRIKE] 10,000Interest earned in 2014: £257.61 20/04/140 -

Well, I suppose that's there problem. Most people have third party cover for other cars, so I could drive any car however the car must have it's own insurance policy.
Any car I test drove privately I would want it to have road tax in place (however short) and it to be insured by the owner. Also, I wouldn't buy a car without a valid MOT.0 -
I know a website that allows you to advertise your car completely free of charge. No commission no catches. And you get 21 days listing with up to 10 photos. Only problem is, last time I mentioned the site on here it was removed because it was classed as a spam post?? I don't think you are allowed to mention any other websites or organisations on here even if they offer you something for FREE (which I thought MSE would love, so I must be missing the point). I think it's OK to mention Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Kwik Fit, Capital One, Lloyds TSB etc etc etc, and all the massive companies who make millions from us, but not something that gives you something for free. Can anybody on here tell me why this is? Does MSE get paid for mentioning/promoting all these massive companies?0

Because people joining this site just to promote one link usually have ties with the company. PM me the link and if it looks legit I'll post it for you.
Edit - Received a pm, and it does look like self promotion - admin user on their forum with very similar username.0
