psoriatic arthritis and work

Hi

Just been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis, and I think I may start to have a problem with work..

I have never had a day off sick with the condition and capable of my job although I am in pain but I just won't let it beat me.

Anyway due to hospital appointments I am having to take time off work and the other day the boss asked if this was a disability..I don't know is it??

I am also afraid that they will try and get rid of me as the boss seems intolerant of anybody with illness..

I am so worried I can't afford to lose my job, can anyone give me any advise?

Many thanks

    Hi

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a disease where joints around the body become inflamed

and sore. It can make moving about difficult and painful. People who have PsA also

have (or will develop) the skin condition psoriasis

I have not psoriasis yet..waiting to see if that develops :(

The first part you are describing rheumatoid arthritis (which is what I have) then, does it only become psoriatic when psoriais occurs. Does the original blood test for arthritis confirm whether it is RH or PsA

RH and PsA are two different types of arthritis. My hubby has RH and son has PsA and it affects them in different ways. Your original blood tests do confirm which type you have.

Actually, its often easy to diagnose RA Due to checking the Rheumatoid factor in blood tests. PA is harder and may be just diagnosed as non-specific. Treatment is often the same regardless of which type.

Tell your employer that you got the illness it is protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, you are allowed to be off with the disability and to attend appointments. Also contact Access to Work and they will advise you as well.
