Widse screen and sleep help

Hi,
every now and again I hit the sleep button on my key board - and when I do this I have no idea how to wake my PC Up.....
So about 5 minutes ago i hit the sleep button, and in order to try to make it come back to life I randomly swept my hand across the keyboard to try to make it work.... (it was either that or throw it out the window which would have done permanent damage)...
Any way it has come back on, and gone all wide-screen on me. Maybe it's just streached out.....
Please help as I have two essays to finish this weekend, and it's already making my eyes go funny....
As far as I can tell it's something that i did with the keyboard, and restarting didn't help.
