However there is a whole world of other attacks that can be performed from anywhere in the world. telnet attacks for example. Most new routers wont let an external connection to be established, however some old routers are weak to this attack.
your router isnt really a router as such thats just a consumer term so its doing all these jobs but often not doing them very well. The firewalls are setup in a certain way on them that basically says any connection established from within the network is ok. So an attacker would utilize somthing like a reverse tcp connection.
PS sorry if I came over a bit strong somtimes I forget to actually think about what forum I am in
whilst the points you make are valid, in these days of smartphones, tablets and other ultra-portable devices, the bigger risk is someone stealing your bandwidth by using an unsecured or hacked wifi connection.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
its a valid point gun jack that is the most common reason for breaking into wireless. However there are ppl who target weak routers on the net to break into another target. However the main targets are people in countries that when the US asks for a search warrant, the country tell them to $£%& off.
I would never loose sleep over my home security, mines probably better than most companies as home networks are much easier to secure in alot of ways. However that being said dont make urself an easy target. Just like with burglers. You dont need pressure sensor pads and a valt, but dont leave ur windows open.
Search for ur router name plus vulnerabilities in google see if anything comes up0
